Green tea contains some well known antioxidant compound called EGCG a catechin that is also found in berries and apples.
The EGCG is most abundant in universal popular drinks. Green tea is not widely popular in U.S, but it is the most consumed beverages across the globe.
A study carried out by researchers on male mice on how EGCG works for 16 weeks, the compound of EGCG was given to mice and this study on mice appears to confirm that the drinks can have a transformation effect in just a few months. In the study carried out by researchers, 3 mice were used and placed in three groups, group 1 was fed with regular diet with plain water, group 2 was fed with high sugar with water laced with fructose, while group 3 was either fed with regular diet or high sugar diet with water laced with 2gram of EGCG. Result of this study reviews that the mice consuming EGCG performed better in several ways on the Morris water maze, which is a test of cognitive and memory function. While the 2nd group has a significant higher body weight than the group 1 and 2. Some studies have also suggested that regular green tea drinkers have a lower risk of cancer which include breast cancer and 28% reduced risk of heart disease.
The compound EGCG also seems to have neuroprotective effect on the brain specifically protecting new neurons in the part of the brain that governs learning and memory.
“Green tea is the second most consumed beverages in the world after water, and is grown in at least 30 countries said by an author, Dr Xuebo Liu from Northwest A&F University in Yanling.
